The Flavors You Never Forget: Cherry Chocolate Chip

This retired Babcock ice cream flavor is the cherry on top of our sweet summer series.

Ingredients:

¾ cup whole milk

⅔ cup sugar

Pinch salt

1½ cups heavy cream

1½ teaspoons maraschino cherry juice

1½ cups chopped maraschino cherries

Semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk sugar, and salt until sugar and salt are dissolved.
  2. Stir in the heavy cream and cherry juice. Add the chopped cherries. Cover and refrigerate the mixture for one to two hours or overnight.
  3. Turn on the ice-cream maker. Pour the chilled mixture into the frozen bowl and churn for 15 minutes.
  4. When the mixture is thickened but still soft, add in the chocolate chips. Churn for five more minutes.
  5. Transfer the frozen mixture to a new container, cover with plastic wrap and a lid, and freeze for at least two hours to allow the ice cream to set.
