Bill Siemering received the George Polk Career Award
- Sep. 24, 2019
My interest in radio began in first grade at Silver Springs School, a two room country school on the Fish Hatchery highway south of Madison. I worked my way through UW working at WHA, now Wisconsin Pubic Radio. I’ve written about how these experiences influenced me when I wrote the original Mission and Purposes statement for NPR and was then hired to implement them as the first director of programming. With the staff, we developed ‘All Things Considered’. Later in Philadelphia, with the staff we developed ‘Fresh Air with Terry Gross’ from a local to a national program.
I’m very much a product of UW!
