Peter W. Olson inducted into National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame
Peter W. Olson ’57, MS’60 of Boulder Jct, Wisconsin was recently inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Wisconsin. Fishing was a favorite pastime throughout the summer months during his successful 33 year teaching and coaching career at Madison LaFollette High School. After retiring from teaching, he and his wife Ann moved to northern Wisconsin where he wholeheartedly pursued his love of fishing. He kept statistics on every fish he ever caught, that total including 1,252 legal muskies, which he also tagged. “I log everything, the size, the weight, what I caught it on, what time it was, what the weather was, the moon phase, everything.” Olson was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the very detailed record keeping of his catches. Many of the statistics have been turned over to the Department of Natural Resources in Woodruff, Wisconsin. Olson recently ended his 55 year coaching career, which included two WIAA state boys basketball championships, when he retired from assistant coaching basketball at Clearwater High School in Clearwater Beach, Florida.
