Geoffrey S. Koby Becomes President of American Translators Association

Geoffrey S. Koby MA’86, MA’89, PhD’92 of Kent, Ohio, was elected president of the American Translators Association (ATA) in October 2023. In February 2024, he became president when the then-president stepped down due to illness. He will serve as president of the ATA for the 2024–25 term. With more than 8,000 members, the American Translators Association is the largest national professional association serving translators and interpreters worldwide, providing a directory of language professionals, professional translator certification, continuing education, publications, and conferences. Dr. Koby is an ATA-certified German>English and Dutch>English translator specializing in business, legal, financial, and patent translation and litigation. He is also a professor of translation studies in Kent State University’s comprehensive translator training program. He is a German>English certification exam grader and also serves on ATA’s Certification Committee and on the board of the American Foundation for Translation and Interpretation, ATA’s non-profit educational and scientific foundation.
