Beny (he/él) is a proud Boricua from Milwaukee, WI. He attended UW in the early 2000s. Beny was the second member of his family to attend UW. His sister, Nadya, was at UW Law School when Beny was an undergrad. Beny had the “blessing” of the Powers-Knapp Scholarship, which helped cover his tuition and fees (now known as the Mercile J. Lee Scholars Program). During his time at UW, he was a founding member of the ‘Do or Die’ Delta Delta Chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. He graduated in 2009 with a Bachelors in Spanish and Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies (LACIS).
Upon graduating from UW, Beny returned to Milwaukee to begin his career in the financial sector. He worked in banking for over a decade and assisted over 250 businesses obtain financing. In 2018, he took a leap of faith and started his own venture, Clover Phoenix Capital. The business has weathered the pandemic along with many other hurdles in its first five years, yet continues to assist clients to creatively obtain access to capital. Clover Phoenix Capital consults small business owners and real estate investors nationally and internationally on how best to finance their business or investment opportunities. Providing insight into strategies they can employ to improve their personal and business profiles that lead to more robust access to funding. They also recently added Life Insurance and Investments to the product offerings, being able to help more than just business owners was a goal of his. Additionally, Beny serves as the Executive VP for Prospanica Milwaukee, a national organization committed to aiding and empowering Latino professionals to achieve their full educational, economic and social potential.
Beny’s goals for the future are straightforward. He welcomes the blessing to employ and create internships for high school and college students, assisting in building wealth by living what he preaches. Beny would also like to be someone who is able to invest in people with time and capital to foster their God-given abilities with access to opportunities. Additionally, he would like to build a greater investment portfolio with businesses and real estate and use that model to coach individuals in our community about finance. This investment is what will afford the ability to change many narratives and futures in the broader Latino community. Beny did just that this spring when he was a Lead and Panelist of two of our Latinx Affinity Group (LAG)’s Making Money Series 2023.
His advice to others? “Pursue your vision and mission for your life by seeking mentors and sponsors, both formally and informally.” Interested in connecting with Beny?
