WAA: Saint Louis Chapter Fall Speaker Event

Join your fellow local Badger alumni for a WAA: Saint Louis Chapter free speaker event that will showcase UW alumna Stella Salvo PhD’14, head of  breeding partnerships for smallholder farming at Bayer Crop Science. She will discuss food security and the Wisconsin Idea.

About the Speaker

Stella Salvo is head of breeding partnerships for smallholder farming at Bayer Crop Science, part of the global breeding organization in research and development. Based in Saint Louis, Missouri, Stella is responsible for driving public-private partnerships in plant breeding and seeks to make positive impacts for the livelihoods of smallholder farmers by working on crop improvement, capacity building, and improved access to innovation and new technologies with the international development community. In previous roles at Bayer, Stella has led teams in data science and analytics. She has also worked in product strategy and development for smallholder farming in Asia and Africa and on applied field research in line development and product placement for global Bayer row-crop pipelines. In addition to her experience with the private sector, Stella has served as a former USAID Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer in Mali and Ethiopia. Active in mentorship in scientific societies and external projects, Stella has also served as chair of Women in Science and chair of the Agronomic Solutions for Smallholders Community. Currently, Stella is vice chair of the Agronomic Science Foundation and vice chair of the International Crop Science Congress. Stella also serves on an advisory board to the International Rescue Committee Airbel Impact Lab on Seed Security, and she is a board member for the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Soybean Value Chain Research. Stella will discuss food security and the Wisconsin Idea, specifically how higher education and food security solve problems to empower global citizens to achieve sustainable development goals and health for all, hunger for none.

The WAA: Saint Louis Chapter will hold this event in accordance with all local public health guidance. Mask usage is welcome but not required.
