WAA: Orange County Student Send-Off Celebration

The class of 2028 is about to arrive on campus — and it’s time to welcome them to the Badger family! Join local UW alumni as we celebrate the next generation of Badgers and help them feel ready for their first day of college. Enjoy games, swimming, and beach activities for all ages! This is a great chance for incoming freshmen and their families to have fun while connecting with current UW students, alumni, and fellow new students from their hometown.

We will provide brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, corn, condiments, paper goods, and utensils. Please bring a dish to share (appetizer, salad, or dessert) and your own beverages. In addition, please bring a donation of school supplies (e.g., new backpacks, pencils, etc.) for our community drive in support of the Project Hope Alliance for children and families experiencing homelessness or unstable housing.

Please register by July 2 so we know how much food to provide. Walk-ins will also be welcome.

Additional Information

Directions

Take the I-5 South to the PCH/Camino Las Ramblas off-ramp, approximately 15 miles south of the El Toro I-5/I-405 interchange. As you exit the freeway, bear right at the fork in the road. Go approximately one mile to the second traffic light. Turn left onto Dana Point Harbor Drive. Turn left at the first traffic light into Doheny State Beach.

Parking

Proceed to the third parking lot. Look for the UW alumni banners near picnic area/pad #3, at the east end of the park just before the San Juan Creek Bridge. There are 127 parking spots in the third lot, but parking lots begin to fill up quickly around noon. Plan on arriving early or carpooling, or you may have to use one of the first two lots. There is limited on-street parking.

When you register, please inform us of any dietary needs, accommodations (such as captions or interpreting services), or other needs.

The WAA: Orange County Chapter will hold this event in accordance with all local public health guidance. Mask usage is welcome but not required. Participants who are sick are asked to stay home to help keep our Badger community safe and healthy. If conditions require a change to this event, you will be notified via email or phone call.
