Hear from a panel of dairy industry experts as they discuss how the Dairy Innovation Hub helps ensure that Wisconsin’s $52.8 billion dairy industry remains a global leader in producing nutritious dairy products in a way that is sustainable — economically, environmentally, and socially. Discover how the university is partnering with communities statewide to:

  • build strong businesses, and
  • keep the best workforce talent right here in Wisconsin.

Speakers

Shelly Mayer ’88 is the executive director of the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW), the largest dairy producer–led, educational organization in the country. Her work has helped dairy farm families across the country work proactively on issues ranging from business profitability, community relations, environmental management, leadership development, food safety, and animal health to labor issues, industry relations, mentorship of the younger generation, and family business transition.

Matt Ruark is a professor, a soil scientist with the Division of Extension, and the faculty director of the Dairy Innovation Hub at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is also a faculty adviser at Discovery Farms, a farmer-led research and outreach program within the Division of Extension, and a project director for the USDA’s Sustainable Dairy Project. In addition, he advises the Wisconsin Agri-Business Association and is a codirector of the Wisconsin Agribusiness Classic: Wisconsin’s premier agribusiness industry event.
