The Family of Michael Stanford Jones Reports His Passing

Michael Stanford Jones ’85 was born on February 28, 1962, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He departed this life on June 21, 2024, transitioning to his heavenly home.

Michael was the eldest of three children born to the marriage union of Douglas Rayfield Jones and Harriet Lenore Jones. Raised in a Christian home, Michael was taught Christian values from an early age, and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

Michael was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and graduated from Martin Luther King Jr. high school. He then attended the University of Wisconsin, earning a bachelor of business administration degree in finance. In the fall of 1982, while in college, Michael pledged to the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity’s Beta Omicron Chapter, and he remained an active member for the remainder of his life.

After college, Michael had a successful career in the insurance industry as a claims specialist, claims adjuster, and a licensed insurance agent. Throughout his career he represented several national companies including State Farm, Nationwide, New York Life, and Liberty Mutual.

Michael was a sports enthusiast! He enjoyed both playing and watching sports. For many years Michael was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan (whether it was popular to be one or not). He was also a music lover, enjoying both Pop music and R&B. Michael was also a very nostalgic person, and he was often noted for his dry sense of humor.

Michael’s memory will be treasured by his siblings, Norman Jones, Michele (Jones) Mitchell, Robin Mitchell, Benjamin Mitchell, Carol Jones, and Lynette Morrison, his sister-in-law, Shelley Jones, his brother-in-law, Kim Earl Mitchell, his nieces, Melody Rymer and Danielle Rymer, his maternal aunt, Barbara Amaro, and a host of other loved ones, including cousins, extended family, friends, and his Kappa Beta Omicron Chapter line brothers, Ed Benson, Sheldon P. Lane, and John S. Meyer.
