As the home to “Brew City,” Wisconsin is a pioneer in the beer industry. This virtual event hosted by Robin Shepard PhD’93, a UW associate professor of life sciences communication, assistant dean of the UW Division of Extension, and expert on Wisconsin’s craft-brewing industry and its connections to the UW, invited four of the state’s top Badger brewmasters to lead tastings and discuss their beers. The guests include Scott Manning ’95, co-owner and brewmaster at Vintage Brewing Co. in Madison; Phil Hoechst ’03, DPT’10, founder and brewmaster at Hop Haus brewery in Fitchburg and Verona, Wisconsin; Trevor Easton ’04, founder and brewmaster of ALT Brew in Madison; and Ashley Kinart-Short ’07, brewmaster at Capital Brewery in Madison. The group discusses their breweries’ adaptations to COVID-19 before guiding attendees through educational tastings of Capital Brewery’s Oktoberfest, Hop Haus’s Hashtag Hazy IPA, ALT Brew’s Rustic Badger Farmhouse Ale, and Vintage Brewing Co.’s Dedication Belgian Dubbel.
