More than $1.7 million raised for immediate needs at UW-Madison

During the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association’s fifth annual Day of the Badger event, April 16-17, more than $1.7 million was raised to help address the greatest needs on the UW-Madison campus. That is a new record for this important event.

  • More than 7,200 gifts were made to more than 150 causes across campus.
  • $51,223 was raised during Bucky’s Push-Up Challenge. Bucky did 35 push-ups for the 350 gifts received between noon and 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

During the first ever “Bucky Hunt”, 20 Bucky plushies were hidden around campus. Each Bucky was assigned a gift value that the finder can decide where that money goes! All 20 Bucky finders replied with where they wanted a WFAA staff member to donate on their behalf, for a total of $1,315.

“We are so grateful to all of the alumni and friends of UW-Madison who stepped up to help meet critical needs,” said Betsy Popelka Massnick, the director of annual giving at the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association. “These funds will be distributed in the next days and weeks to help students and the university now and into the future.”
